Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Technical Principal in our Energy unit to lead electrical design for 11kV–33kV networks, renewable connections, and HV/LV infrastructure. The role spans inception, master planning, detailed design, commissioning and project completion, with mentoring responsibility for junior engineers.

You will lead front-end studies, bid support, stakeholder engagement, and client interfaces, while ensuring compliance with G99 and DNO/TSO standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer or equivalent status.
• Extensive experience in electrical project engineering.
• Strong knowledge of 11kV–33kV network design, HV/LV systems.
• Proven understanding of control and protection schemes (including G99).
• Experience producing tender specifications, calculations, designs and drawings.
• Ability to lead engineering projects from early design to commissioning.

Responsibilities

• Front-End & Optioneering: capture stakeholder requirements and assess configurations.
• Detailed Design: electrical network design and substation layouts.
• Commissioning Support: respond to queries and attend design reviews.
• Project Leadership: coordinate multi-disciplinary interfaces and lead client meetings.
• Additional: bid support, team development, and ensuring standards compliance.
