Job summary

Navartis Ltd is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead design delivery for rail electrification and energy projects from early design through site support. Based in Derby/Glasgow/Coatbridge, you will manage electrical design outputs to international standards and mentor junior staff.

You will apply HV/LV expertise, earthing analysis, and power system studies, while coordinating across disciplines and maintaining rigorous project records for audits.

Qualifications

• Experience in the T&D energy or railway traction power markets.
• Ability to produce and review detailed engineering outputs (calculations, schematics, reports).
• Collaborative cross-disciplinary approach and technical oversight/mentoring.
• Valid UK driving licence and right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Produce and detail check design deliverables and calculations to standards.
• Develop and utilize design toolsets to drive efficiencies and cost reductions.
• Detail check and produce design drawings using Bentley MicroStation within Projectwise.
• Support site teams and update designs with TQs, FCRs, SIs and RFIs.
• Mentor junior staff and contribute to CPD and knowledge transfer.

Summary

A Principal Contractor and the leading provider of electrical solutions for rail infrastructure, specialising in Overhead Catenary System (OCS) and High Voltage Traction and Non-Traction Power Supply (HV) is looking to hire a Senior Electrical Design Engineer in their Derby / Glasgow / Coatbridge office to support the delivery of complex infrastructure projects across both the energy and rail electrification sector - from early-stage design through to site support and project completion

Main Duties

• Produce & detail check design deliverables & calculations in line with relevant British, European, industry and client standards. (Such as - Reports, Addendums, Design Decision Logs, Design Risk Assessments, Bill of Quantities, Software Analytical Reports and Schematics, etc)
• Develop, manage & utilise design team toolsets to ensure that the team remains industry leading & can drive efficiencies to win work & drive down the cost of infrastructure enhancement (Such as - IEC and ANSI/IEEE power system modelling, EN 50163/50388 traction modelling, BS7671 LV cable calculations, EN 50522 and IEEE80 earthing analysis etc)
• Detail check & produce design drawings using Bentley MicroStation (CAD Software) within the Projectwise data environment. (Such as - Layout Plans, Cross Sections, Single Line Diagrams, Block Diagrams, Wiring Diagrams, Schematics etc)
• Support Site teams with on-site working (where appropriate & required) & update designs to reflect Technical Queries (TQ's), Field Change Requests (FCRs), Site Instructions (SI's), Site Queries (SQ's) and Requests for Information (RFI's)
• Produce & check design outputs to agreed programme timescales, using good time management skills & raise early warnings should timescales not be possible with clear justifications.
• Engage with other disciplines through IDCs & IDRs to develop a fully integrated & high-quality Electrical design output.
• Mentor, train & support junior staff and to share knowledge to them.
• Continuous professional self-development towards chartered engineer status with relevant professional institution.
• Ensure that up to date records of individual projects are maintained and are available for audit purpose.
• Participate in lessons learned & knowledge transfer with the rest of the design team.
• Support implementation of a safe by design approach through all design deliverables, alongside support from peers & senior team members.

What we're looking for

• Experience in the T&D energy or railway traction power markets
• Strong understanding of HV/LV systems, substations, earthing, or power system studies
• Ability to produce and review detailed engineering outputs (calculations, schematics, reports)
• A collaborative approach with the ability to work across disciplines
• Technical oversight, mentoring, and design review expertise
• Ability to provide training & mentorship to junior members of staff.
• Full driving licence and vehicle
• Full right to work the UK (no sponsorship can be offered)

Salary

Circa £63,000 - £67,000 per annum (DOE) plus package including a car/allowance, 25 days holidays and more.
