Job description

At Severn Trent, our purpose is taking care of life's essentials and we’re passionate about making a difference. Not just because we should, but because we care.

As we enter AMP8, our most ambitious five-year investment programme yet—nearly £13bn, with £6bn dedicated to capital projects—we’re embracing innovation like never before. Our new Plug and Play approach is transforming how we deliver infrastructure: modular, scalable, and smart.

Everything you need to know

As a Senior Electrical Design Engineer, you’ll lead the development of innovative electrical systems and solutions from concept through to detailed design. You will work closely with multi‑disciplinary teams to create standardised, modular electrical designs that are safe, efficient, and future‑ready.

  • Lead the electrical design process, including specifications, optioneering, and detailed design.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand project requirements and translate them into robust electrical solutions.
  • Support early‑stage commissioning planning and ensure designs meet regulatory and operational standards.
  • Continuously improve standard designs based on feedback, risk assessments, and performance data.
  • Ensure seamless integration between product design and site implementation teams.
What you’ll bring to the role

We value strong character, positivity and a caring attitude as much as technical skill. We are looking for a design‑focused electrical engineer with a passion for infrastructure and innovation.

  • A degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline and/or a minimum of 5 years proven experience in electrical design.
  • Familiarity with CAD and digital electrical design tools such as E-Plan.
  • Experience managing product life cycles and working with supply chains.
  • Strong understanding of H&S and risk management in engineering design.
  • An innovative and collaborative mindset with the ability to influence stakeholders to drive practical, effective solutions.
  • Flexibility to travel between sites throughout the UK on an ad‑hoc basis as projects demand.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality. We employ thousands of people from across our community who truly care about what they do, and we continually advance equity and inclusion through our special interest groups for LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity.
