Job summary

WSP’s Environmental Assessment and Management team in the UK seeks a Senior EIA Consultant to lead environmental inputs to project designs across energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property and local government sectors. You will work with specialists and design teams to improve environmental performance.

The role covers EIA screening, scoping, environmental statements and work-winning activities, with opportunities to mentor junior colleagues and contribute to innovative techniques while upholding

Qualifications

• Environmental degree in EIA or similar is required.
• Experience with EIA processes and coordinating assessments in multi-disciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of environmental and planning legislation.
• Post-qualification experience coordinating environmental assessments.
• Understanding of project management including commercial, risk, forecasting and QA.
• Experience in work winning and bid preparation.
• Experience liaising with cross-disciplinary teams and clients.
• Strong verbal and written communication, including report writing.
• Promoting health, safety and wellbeing culture.

Responsibilities

• Provide environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues.
• Work with diverse environmental specialists and design teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement.
• Manage delivery of environmental inputs including EIA screening, scoping, studies, and Environmental Statements.
• Oversee performance across technical, quality, commercial and health & safety aspects.
• Build relationships with clients and identify opportunities for resourcing, programming and strategy.
• Contribute to proposals and strategic bids, and participate in business development opportunities.
• Support development of innovative techniques in Digital EIA and other initiatives.
• Inspire and upskill junior colleagues and promote a positive health/safety culture.
• Contribute to the success of WSP's business strategy with self-motivation toward goals.

Senior EIA Consultant

We are looking for a Senior level environmental professional to support our Environmental Management and Assessment Team in one of our UK offices. Our portfolio spans energy, aviation, nuclear, rail, property and local government, among others. We need individuals with creative spirit, a dedicated approach and a solid grounding in environmental design, assessment and management at all stages of project development.

Responsibilities

As a Senior EIA Consultant within WSP’s Environmental Assessment and Management team, you will work with technical environmental specialists and design teams across multiple sectors to manage environmental inputs to project designs and assessments. You will be instrumental in improving the environmental performance for a diverse range of projects across multiple sectors.

• Providing environmental advice and support to clients, project managers and colleagues
• Working with colleagues, diverse environmental specialists, clients and engineering teams to promote sustainable design and environmental enhancement
• Managing the delivery of a diverse range of environmental inputs into projects including EIA screening requests and scoping reports, environmental constraints studies, environmental management plans and Environmental Statements
• Managing projects, overseeing our performance on technical, quality, commercial, and health and safety
• Building relationships with clients and identifying opportunities to provide support in areas such as resourcing, programming, strategy development and project delivery
• Undertaking activities to secure new work, including preparing proposals, contributing to strategic‑bid preparation, and participating in business development opportunities
• Supporting the development of innovative techniques to shape the way we do our business through Digital EIA, Technical Excellence, Future Ready EIA, etc.
• Inspiring and upskilling junior colleagues to support their career development

Qualifications

• A relevant environmental degree level qualification in EIA, or similar
• Achieved or demonstrably working towards Chartered Environmental Status and Full membership of IEMA, or similar qualification with a relevant professional body
• Experience of EIA and EIA processes and working with limited supervision within multi‑disciplinary teams
• Knowledge and experience of relevant environmental and planning legislation
• Demonstrable post‑qualified experience of coordinating environmental assessments on a variety of projects
• An appreciation of project management activities, including commercial and risk aspects, forecasting, and quality assurance
• Experience in work winning and bid preparation activities
• Experience of liaising with cross‑discipline teams, clients, and with external bodies and organisations
• Verbal and written communication skills including report writing with an attention to detail
• Demonstrable experience of promoting a positive health, safety and wellbeing culture
