This is an exciting opportunity to join my client, an eco-conscious, innovative Ecological and Environmental Planning Consultancy, lending their expertise to a diverse range of projects across the public and private sectors. They are on the lookout for a capable, experienced Senior Ecologist, willing to take on a number of challenging projects alongside a growing team of professionals, based near the vibrant, diverse, cultural city of Brighton and Hove.

Responsibilities
  • Liaising with a range of clients across the public and private sectors, regarding all aspects of project delivery
  • Ensuring projects are delivered within budget and on time, to the highest possible standards
  • Producing the highest quality technical reports and assessments, as well as overseeing, reviewing, and amending content produced by colleagues
  • Mentoring colleagues and providing them with technical guidance and support
Required skills and experience
  • A Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent qualification) in Ecology (or similar, relevant discipline)
  • Member of/Chartership within the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM), or similar professional institute
  • Extensive experience of conducting a range of ecological surveys, including Habitat Surveys and Protected Species Surveys, utilising field data to influence and author reports and assessments
  • Demonstrable experience in producing Phase 1 Reports, Preliminary Ecology Appraisals (PEA), Protected Species Surveys Reports, Ecological Mitigation and Enhancement Plans, etc.
  • Hold Protected Species Survey Licences for at least two species/groups (e.g., bats, Great Crested Newts, barn owls, etc.)
  • Outstanding communication (written and verbal) communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of liaising and engaging with clients and other stakeholders
  • An understanding of GIS software and its applications
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence, with a willingness to travel to a variety of sites, as and when required (with the possibility of staying away from home for periods of time)
Desirable skills and experience
  • A Higher Degree (e.g., MSc, Ph.D., etc.) in a relevant subject
  • Experience of having drafted applications for European Protected Species Mitigation (EPSM) Licences, and having successfully obtained these
  • Working knowledge of drafting Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA) and Habitats Regulations Assessments (HRA)
  • Good working knowledge of ArcGIS
  • Prior experience of Business Development within the ecological sector, such as preparing bids and tenders, etc.
