Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Leeds is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join a well-established team. You will lead ecological assessments and surveys across a diverse project portfolio, from local conservation to infrastructure, ensuring high-quality outputs and regulatory compliance.

The successful candidate will bring proven field expertise, strong report writing, and the ability to mentor junior ecologists, while maintaining excellent client liaison and upholding UK wildlife legislation.

Qualifications

• Experience within an ecological consultancy or related field.
• Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline; masters/PhD advantageous.
• Proficiency in ecological survey techniques, data analysis, and report writing.
• Strong understanding of UK wildlife legislation, planning regulations, and best practices in ecological management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage ecological assessments, habitat surveys, and impact studies for various projects.
• Conduct and oversee field surveys, including protected species surveys, habitat assessments, and ecological monitoring.
• Prepare detailed ecological reports, impact assessments, and mitigation strategies.
• Client liaison: build and maintain relationships with clients, providing expert advice on ecological issues.
• Assist with mentoring junior ecologists and supporting team development.
• Ensure projects comply with relevant legislation, planning policies, and environmental standards.

What We're Looking For;
