Job summary

Amentum is recruiting a Principal EC&I Engineer to join our Fusion team, based in Culham/Harwell, UK. You will lead EC&I engineering on fusion projects, develop electrical/control systems, and ensure compliance with safety standards; periodic client site visits may be required.

You will also mentor engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing. The role calls for chartered status or active pursuit, strong written reporting, and a proactive, collaborative approach to deliver high-quality

Qualifications

• Degree in relevant engineering discipline or demonstrable equivalent underpinning knowledge with relevant industry experience or apprenticeships.
• Ideally working towards or attained chartered engineer status.
• Awareness of software-based control systems (e.g., PLCs, FPGAs, SCADA, HMIs, DCSs, SMART components).
• Health and safety focus with experience of EC&I regulations, standards and best practices.
• Proactive and collaborative approach with ownership of tasks and teamwork.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills across diverse backgrounds.
• Competent technical report writing skills: clearly reporting findings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of EC&I engineering activities on fusion projects.
• Develop and substantiate electrical systems, control systems and instrumentation.
• Perform sizing, specification and selection of EC&I equipment and systems.
• Deliver high-quality technical documentation: calculations, datasheets and reports.
• Ensure EC&I solutions meet functional, performance and safety requirements including V&V involvement.
• Apply functional safety lifecycle management following IEC-61508 and standards.
• Conduct fault analysis and reliability assessments (FMEA/FTA/HAZID/HAZOP).
• Review deliverables and mentor engineers and students; promote knowledge sharing.
