Permanent role supporting complex plant construction and commissioning projects across regulated manufacturing environments.

About the Senior EC&I Engineer Job

As a Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of plant construction and commissioning projects. Working across highly regulated sectors including pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, and aggregates manufacturing.

You’ll take technical ownership of EC&I activities from design through to commissioning and handover. Ensuring compliance with industry standards, safety requirements, and project objectives.

This role suits an experienced EC&I Engineer who enjoys combining hands‑on technical leadership with problem‑solving in live project environments.

Key Responsibilities in this Senior EC&I Engineer Role
  • Lead and coordinate EC&I engineering activities across all project phases, from concept and design through to installation, commissioning, and validation.
  • Develop, review, and approve EC&I designs, specifications, and documentation in line with regulatory and client requirements (including GAMP, ATEX, IEC, and BS/EN standards).
  • Oversee the selection, procurement, and integration of electrical, control, and instrumentation systems to meet process, safety, and operational needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and coordination to subcontractors, site engineers, and installation teams to ensure quality and timely delivery.
  • Participate in risk assessments, HAZOPs, and safety reviews related to EC&I systems and installations.
  • Support commissioning, testing, and validation activities, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with quality standards.Collaborate with process, mechanical, and civil engineers, alongside project managers and client representatives.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues arising during installation and commissioning phases.
  • Ensure all EC&I activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Mentor and provide technical support to junior engineers and wider project teams as required.
About You And Your Engineering Background

You’ll be an experienced and technically confident EC&I Engineer with a background in delivering engineering projects. You may not currently be a Senior Engineer and could be looking to step into a role with more responsibilities (the company is open on the level of experience).

You’ll ideally bring:
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering, Control & Instrumentation Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience in EC&I engineering.
  • Experience delivering EC&I scope on capital projects through to commissioning and handover.
  • Hands‑on experience with PLC, DCS, SCADA systems, and industrial communication networks.
  • Understanding of hazardous area design and instrumentation for explosive atmospheres.
  • Experience supervising contractors and engaging with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
Working Arrangements and benefits

Hybrid-based role, with travel to UK project sites and office locations as required.

Flexibility to support extended hours or weekends during key commissioning phase (although infrequent and planned in advance).
