A multinational consultancy in Pontyclun is seeking a Senior Earthing Design Engineering Consultant to lead the design of earthing systems and engage with clients. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, at least 5 years of experience in related fields, and proficiency in CDEGS, AutoCAD, and MS Office. This role includes mentoring junior engineers and has a strong focus on client relationships and technical documentation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in earthing & lightning protection design, assessments, and field testing.

  • Lead the design of earthing systems and perform lightning protection risk assessments (BS EN 62305).
  • Conduct testing and inspection of protection systems at substations, power stations, and renewable energy sites.
  • Manage key client relationships, resolve queries, and communicate technical outputs clearly.

RINA is currently recruiting for a Senior Earthing Design Engineering Consultant to join its office in Pontyclun within the Power Engineering and Renewables Division.

What You'll Do
  • Design & Simulation: Lead the design of earthing systems and perform lightning protection risk assessments (BS EN 62305).
  • Site Visits: Conduct testing and inspection of protection systems at substations, power stations, and renewable energy sites.
  • Client Engagement: Manage key client relationships, resolve queries, and communicate technical outputs clearly.
  • Report Writing: Deliver detailed technical reports and review junior team members’ outputs.
  • Team Leadership: Mentor and support junior engineers and graduates to foster team growth and knowledge sharing.

  • Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Desirable: Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience in earthing & lightning protection design, assessments, and field testing.
Skills & Attributes
  • Proficiency in CDEGS, AutoCAD, and MS Office.
  • Strong understanding of UK standards for electrical infrastructure.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work onsite (2–4 nights away/week).
  • Demonstrated ability to support and develop junior team members.
  • Collaborative, inquisitive, respectful, and highly accurate in technical work.
