Job description

Senior Drainage & Flood Risk Engineer

Location: Central London

Salary: £50,000-£55,000 + Annual Bonus

Working Pattern: Hybrid (2-3 office days per week)

A leading UK engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Drainage Engineer to join its growing Central London team. You will support a wide portfolio of projects, including major town centre regeneration, large-scale residential developments, commercial and mixed-use schemes, education facilities, and leisure industry projects. Work will span feasibility studies, Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies, and detailed design for both highway and on-plot drainage.

Key Responsibilities

• Design drainage solutions (including SuDS) from concept through to detailed design
• Produce Flood Risk Assessments, Drainage Strategies and technical reports
• Prepare fee proposals and support project and budget management
• Liaise with clients, contractors, planning authorities and other stakeholders
• Support and mentor junior engineers

Requirements

• Experience working within a UK consultancy on drainage and flood risk projects across the private & public sector
• Competent user of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Site 3D, InfoDrainage (or similar)
• Strong report writing and communication skills
• Good understanding of UK drainage standards and approval processes
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
• Chartered or working towards Chartership (desirable)

Technical Expertise

• SuDS design and modelling (ponds, swales, tanks, rain gardens, etc.)
• Section 104 / 106 / 185 applications
• Surface water and foul drainage for major developments
• Highway drainage design
• Designs in line with DMRB, Sewerage Sector Guidance, CIRIA, Building Regulations, and Local Authority standards
• Supporting tender and construction phases, including response to RFIs

Desirable (Not Essential)

• Highway / estate road design (S278 / S38, vehicle tracking, car parks, ground modelling, pavement design)
