Qualifications

Overview

Senior Dosimetrist
HCA Healthcare at Guys Hospital, London
37.5 hours per week Mon-Fri
Fixed Term Contract (12 months)
Salary: Competitive dependent upon experience

We’re looking for a Senior Dosimetrist to join our team at HCA at Guys, currently rated “Good” by the CQC.

The Senior Dosimetrist contributes to the day-to-day operations of the treatment planning activities at London Bridge Hospital Radiotherapy site. You will be required to be trained and become locally competent in all areas within treatment planning. You will need to be able to work as part of the MDT to implement novel and routine radiotherapy techniques into clinical use.

Key duties
  • To be trained and become competent in all treatment planning techniques offered by London Bridge Hospital Radiotherapy.
  • To work with clinical oncologists to produce accurate and precise treatment plans by aiding their localisation of treatment volumes and organs at risk. To explain the resulting treatment set up, such that the clinician is able to approve the finished plan
  • To interact and liaise with physicists, radiographers, clinical oncologists, nursing and clerical staff in a professional manner.
  • To develop new treatment or dosimetry techniques where the need arises or best practice dictates.
  • Provide scientific and technical advice to Consultant Clinical Oncologists and other clinical staff regarding patient treatments and imaging.
  • To develop and maintain departmental protocols in close collaboration with the staff of the Radiotherapy department.
  • To ensure the department’s quality system is kept at a high standard, which meets national standards.
  • To participate in the training of junior staff members or other members of department.
  • To take responsibility for self-directed, self-initiated learning to ensure continuing development (CPD) is maintained.
What you’ll bring

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in relevant subject e.g. Radiotherapy, Radiography, Physics, Clinical Technology.
  • Registration relevant to professional background (HCPC, AHCS, or eligible for registration with RCT).
  • Extensive experience of Radiotherapy treatment planning
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment as a treatment planner

Desirable:

  • Experience of using Eclipse TPS and Aria OIS
  • Experience of Radiotherapy plan checking
  • Experience of planning stereotactic treatments for Linacs
  • Practical experience of radiotherapy equipment (linear accelerators, treatment planning systems and dosimetry)
