Job summary

The University of Sheffield AMRC is seeking a Director of External Affairs to lead high-level external influence and national policy positioning for the AMRC and the University. The role sits at the strategic intersection of academia, industry, regional leadership, and central government, ensuring core messaging and policy priorities land with key decision-makers in UK Government.

Qualifications

External Affairs & Public Affairs Leadership: Extensive track record of leading high-level external affairs, political engagement, and public affairs strategies within complex, multi-stakeholder organisations.
Whitehall & UK GOV Engagement: Deep working knowledge of UK Government structures, decision-making processes, parliamentary mechanisms, and success engaging ministers and senior officials.
Strategic Messaging & Positioning: Ability to formulate and land institutional messaging across Whitehall to influence national policy.

Responsibilities

Lead external affairs strategy and political engagement to position the AMRC and University with central government.
Oversee messaging, media opportunities, and high-profile events for national impact.
Line manage marketing, communications, and STEM engagement teams to deliver strategy.
Collaborate with CER to align external relations with institutional priorities.
