Job description
SENIOR DIETITIAN – Gastrointestinal (GI) and HPB

Application open at University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The closing date is 04 December 2025.

Are you wanting to develop your career in surgical dietetics in an Acute Teaching Trust environment?

There is an excellent opportunity to be part of a high quality, effective nutrition and dietetic service, for Hepatobilary (HPB) and Upper and Lower Gastroenterology in and outpatients. It is an exciting time to join the team as HPB have recently reconfigured to GH and has become a 'standalone' service managing HPB emergencies and elective care.

You will be a core and valued member of the adult Multi‑Disciplinary Teams, consisting of Consultants Anaesthetists and Surgeons, Nurses, Pharmacists and Therapists.

We are looking for a motivated, active team player, with excellent communication skills. You will have a great opportunity to develop clinical leadership skills and gain further experience in all aspects of surgical dietetic care and complex nutritional support. You will be supported by our Speciality Lead Dietitian and wider surgical & cancer team.

Main duties of the job

To provide a Nutrition and Dietetic Service to Upper, Lower GI and HPB patients & their families. This will include patients with UGI, LGI, and HPB cancers, acute and chronic pancreatitis, biliary issues, and various non‑cancer UGI and LGI patients, some of which have stepped down from ITU.

Our ethos is Caring at its Best and we strongly believe that to be a well‑rounded practitioner, dietitians really benefit from working in a diverse range of specialities. You will receive support and clinical supervision helping you to develop your own specialist skills and knowledge.

Working closely alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will contribute to the delivery of the services, offering assessment, formulation and treatment plans to a range of different in‑patient groups. The post remit will also include teaching and training of healthcare professionals, resource development and student dietetic training.

This role is ideal for a proactive team player looking for experience in a variety of specialisms whilst further developing their nutritional support skills.

About us

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023‑2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high‑quality care for all
  • being a great place to work
  • partnerships for impact
  • research and education excellence

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate
  • we are proud
  • we are inclusive
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.

Job responsibilities
  • To manage the adult dietetic caseloads with varying degree of nutritional complexity, without direct supervision and whilst exercising a large degree of autonomy.
  • To be an expert in adult dietetic care within the Dietetic and Nutrition team and service, and inform other dietitians within the team and service of developments in these fields.
