Job summary

Qualifications

  • DCR/BSc Diagnostic Radiography, BSc Nuclear Medicine, or equivalent qualifications are required.
  • Proven expertise in PET-CT or Nuclear Medicine is essential.
  • Experience in administration of radioactive substances for diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized imaging within the Radiology Department.
  • Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals for investigations.
  • Ensure safe handling of radioactive materials.

Skills

Specialist knowledge of Nuclear Medicine and/or PET-CT
Interest in Oncology
Computer literacy - Windows, Microsoft Office

Education

Job description

We work collaboratively with Alliance Medical in providing the PET-CT service as part of the NHSE National Contract. We also carry out non-contract work such as scanning to aid with radiotherapy planning and clinical trials.

Our PET-CT service at Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Wirral is currently delivered using a Siemens Biograph mCT flow PET-CT scanner, but this is due for replacement in 2026. The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool site houses a digital Siemens Biograph Vision.

The department is dedicated to supporting staff development and training. There may be the opportunity for role development in the future, such as Post Graduate qualifications, research-based activities and/or development of further therapy treatments. You would be required to work flexibly with the department moving towards extended days and Saturday working in PET as the service develops.

Main duties of the job

To participate in the provision of specialised imaging within the Radiology Department at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre.

To prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals for investigations .

To work within the Nuclear Medicine and PET-CT teams undertaking high quality imaging.

To ensure that all radioactive material is handled safely and in compliance with all local rules and appropriate legislation.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • DCR/BSc Diagnostic Radiography with HCPC registration or BSc Nuclear Medicine/Clinical Technology with RCT registration or BSc Healthcare Science Practitioner (Medical Physics Technology) Apprenticeship with ACHS registration
  • Post Graduate Qualification in Nuclear Medicine
  • Training in development of supervisory skills
Knowledge and Expertise
  • Specialist knowledge and proven expertise of Nuclear Medicine and/or PET-CT
  • Evidence of CPD
  • Proven interest in Oncology
  • Knowledge of QSI
  • Computer literate - Windows, Microsoft Office and other software applications
Experience
  • Experience in Nuclear Medicine and/or PET-CT.
  • Proven experience in the administration of radioactive substances for diagnosis.
  • Competent in the use of specialist equipment including basic trouble shooting.
  • IR(ME)R knowledge. IRR knowledge
  • Competent to work autonomously with a range of patient examinations.
  • Proven experience in the administration of radioactive substances for treatment
