Job summary

Intermedia in the United Kingdom is seeking a proactive Senior DevOps Engineer to build, maintain, and operate Linux-based infrastructure at scale. You will drive automation, strengthen deployment pipelines, and collaborate with multi-national teams to deliver reliable cloud communications tooling.

Remote-first with occasional visits to Bristol or London, you will join a fast-paced, supportive environment that values initiatives, hands-on problem solving, and strong security practices.

Qualifications

• BAsics: 4+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering or related field.
• Strong understanding of Linux OS and command-line.
• Experience with Chef or other configuration management tools.
• Ability to design and manage CI/CD pipelines with GitHub, GitHub Actions and Jenkins.
• Solid networking knowledge: DNS, TCP/UDP, firewalls, load balancers.
• Foundational security practices and good operational hygiene.
• Proficient scripting in Bash, Python, Ruby or Go.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with devops engineers and development teams to deploy and maintain infrastructure.
• Develop and support tooling to streamline deployment and maintenance.
• Use GitHub, GitHub Actions and Jenkins to move apps from development to production.
• Support in-house and third-party apps, including deployments, upgrades and troubleshooting.
• Build and manage automation pipelines for deployment and maintenance.
• Manage Linux servers via the command line on a day-to-day basis.
• Create monitoring dashboards and alerts in Grafana with Prometheus and Alertmanager.
• Document processes and best practices clearly and concisely.
• Participate in on-call incident resolution.

About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive and eager Senior DevOps Engineer with experience in building, maintaining, and operating Linux based infrastructure at scale. This role is perfect for someone with a passion for automation and efficiency and thrives in a collaborative multi-national environment.

While primarily remote, this role may require occasional visits to the Bristol office or London.

What you will be doing:

• Collaborate closely with fellow devops engineers and the development team to deploy and maintain application infrastructure.
• Assist in the development and support of tooling to streamline the deployment and maintenance of our products.
• Work with Github, Jenkins, and Chef to deploy applications from development through to production environments.
• Support both in-house and third-party applications, including handling deployments, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Build and manage automation pipelines for application deployment and maintenance.
• Engage in the day-to-day management of Linux servers via the command line
• Create monitoring dashboards and alerts in Grafana leveraging Prometheus and Alertmanager.
• Document processes and best practices clearly and concisely.
• Participate in incident solving on-call rotation.

What you will bring to the role:

• 4+ years of experience in DevOps Engineering or a related field.
• Strong understanding of the Linux operating system and comfort working at the command line.
• Experience with using Chef or other configuration management tools to automate the creation and maintenance of servers and applications.
• Ability to design, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines using GitHub, Github Actions, and Jenkins.
• Solid understanding of networking principles, including DNS, TCP/UDP, firewalls, and load balancers.
• A willingness to dive into both complex systems and more routine tasks, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
• A foundational understanding of security best practices.
• Proficiency with scripting languages like Bash, Ruby, Python, or Go.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Kubernetes and Helm templating.
• Experience with real-time voice/video protocols like SIP and RTP.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS.
• Previous experience with tools such as Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ, MySQL, and Ansible.
• Experience working with globally distributed and remote teams.
