Job description

We are working closely alongside with a local authority in North Northamptonshire to assist with the appointment of a Senior Development Management Officer on a 2.5-months contract, highly likely to be extended at client discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration. The Senior Development Management Officer works across the functions of Planning Policy and Development Management. This role primarily focuses on Development Management (DM), involving the timely processing of planning submissions and related activities, and handling more significant applications. The position requires applying expert knowledge of planning legislation and policy to facilitate and control development, ensuring effective implementation of Council policies while delivering high-quality customer service.

  • Implement the policies and procedures of the Council with regard to the management of development.
  • Ensure the timely processing of planning submissions and related activities.
  • Assess the acceptability of planning proposals, write recommendations, and prepare reports for the relevant committee or for determination under delegated powers.
  • Assist in implementing and delivering policies and guidance in practice.
  • Provide advice to applicants, their agents, and other customers in relation to planning matters, and advise other departments as required.
  • Maintain records and process applications.
  • Prepare appeal statements.
  • Working knowledge of current planning legislation and practice.
  • Understanding of the English Planning System.
  • Conversant with policy documents, plans, maps, and architectural drawings.
  • Experience of using computerised planning systems and GIS.
  • A relevant degree or equivalent qualification to allow access to Chartered membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent).
  • Licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (or equivalent).
  • Demonstration of extended experience either of being responsible for a range of non-major planning applications, or planning policy projects.
  • Full UK driving license.
