Job summary

Tier 1 Main Contractor is seeking a Senior Design Manager / Technical Manager in the Bristol area to drive design excellence across multi-room schemes. You will report to the Design Director, lead a design team, and ensure timely delivery of design information, risk management and coordination with construction teams.

The role requires extensive knowledge of building sector projects, D&B coordination experience and a relevant degree.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the Building sector and related standards.
• Experience as Design Co-ordinator, D&B Coordinator/Manager with strong design oversight.
• Experience on Residential, Apartment Blocks, Student Accommodation, Hotels projects preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support the Design Director with staff development and project reviews.
• Assist in tender evaluation and consultant appointments.
• Provide cover for projects and monitor progress with the design team.
• Lead weekly design resource meetings and manage risks and gateway reviews.
• Coordinate information flow for building control, planning and warranties.

Senior Design Manager / Technical Manager

I'm currently recruiting on behalf of my client Tier 1 Main Contractor with a busy and fast-growing workload an experienced Senior Design manager /Technical Manager in the Bristol area.

REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of Building Sector.
• Previous employment as a Design Co-ordinator, D&B Coordinator, D&B Manager, Design Manager. Architecture or Design Engineering backgrounds also considered.
• Previous experience in building sector projects such as Residential, Apartment Blocks, Student Accommodation, Hotels- Ideally previous Main Contractor employment but not essential.
• Relevant industry qualification (Degree / HND / HNC etc).

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Report to and assist the Design Director in staff development, project reviews and technical matters for the Multi-room Design Management department.
• Assist in the technical evaluation of tenders and appointment of consultants
• Provide short term or end of project cover for projects. Key Responsibilities Monitor and report on the progress of allocated staff in the following areas:
• Review project progress with Ops Manager and MQS.
• Meet with project design resource ideally one day per week to support them in their career and on the project. Review risks, IRS progress and gateway reviews to identify key points to address. Share information from TM weekly meeting and wider business.
• Encourage the sharing of ideas and questions on TEAMS, visits to other sites and contact with other team members.
• Develop the initial IRS at tender stage based on the contract programme with float removed. Procurement dates agreed with MQS.
• Ensure that the Q03(M) process is being adhered to.
• Monitor and report on project team attendance at DTMs.
• Ensure all design management 'T' forms are reviewed and commented on and ensure updated as site progresses.
• Review all contract documents and identify any key design management points and add and risks to the Risk& Opps schedule. Initially through Tender stage - then to monitor/assist/discuss with SDM & PM & MQS during production phase
• Continually monitor design progress for contract adherence.
• Organise dates and topics for Technical Reviews
• Ensure that the SDM's/DM's and M&E DM's have clear responsibilities. Support the M&E DMs in the install and commissioning process.
• Check that information is being issued in a timely manner for building control, planning, warranty provider and to Client following the agreed submission procedure.
• Assist in the collation of the O&M Health and Safety file
• Manage design resource on projects to ensure staff are effectively utilised and available for new projects on agreed dates.
• Oversee the exit of design resource from projects at the earliest opportunity and continue to monitor projects and ensure design support is given as required

Salary: £75.000- £95.000 -This will be based on experience
