The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Design Manager to lead and coordinate the design development of civil infrastructure projects within a nuclear framework. This role is critical in ensuring that design solutions meet stringent nuclear safety standards, regulatory requirements, and client objectives, while driving innovation and efficiency across multidisciplinary teams.
The successful candidate will oversee the design process from concept through detailed design, ensuring constructability, compliance, and seamless transition into construction phases.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

• Design Leadership
• Lead and manage the design process for civil infrastructure projects within nuclear frameworks.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams including civil, structural, geotechnical, and architectural disciplines.
• Ensure design deliverables are completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.
• Stakeholder Engagement
• Act as the primary interface between clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory authorities on design matters.
• Facilitate design reviews, workshops, and approvals with stakeholders.
• Communicate design progress and risks to senior leadership.
• Technical Oversight
• Review and approve design outputs, feasibility studies, and technical reports.
• Ensure compliance with nuclear safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry codes of practice.
• Champion innovation in design methodologies, digital tools (e.g., BIM), and sustainable solutions.
• Integration & Constructability
• Work closely with pre-construction and construction teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and cost-effective.
• Identify and resolve design clashes, risks, and technical challenges.
• Support value engineering initiatives to optimize project outcomes.
• Governance & Compliance
• Maintain rigorous design control processes, documentation, and approvals.
• Ensure adherence to nuclear regulatory frameworks and quality assurance systems.
• Drive continuous improvement in design management practices.

You will have the following qualifications & experience

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or related discipline (Chartered status preferred).
• 10+ years’ experience in design management within civil infrastructure, ideally in nuclear or other highly regulated sectors.
• Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary design teams on large-scale, complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of nuclear safety standards, regulatory frameworks, and quality assurance processes.
• Proficiency in design and project management software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Strategic thinker with the ability to translate technical requirements into practical solutions.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence at all levels.
