Job summary

Wates Residential is seeking a Senior Design Manager to provide technical leadership across major regeneration projects, guiding design from pre-construction to completion and ensuring buildable, compliant outcomes.

You will coordinate consultants and internal teams, manage design programmes and technical approvals, support BIM and Building Safety requirements, and mentor design managers across the project.

Qualifications

• Significant design management experience within construction.
• Knowledge of CDM requirements and health and safety legislation.

• Understanding BIM, digital information management and the Golden Thread.

Ready to help shape the next chapter of a major regeneration project?

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join Wates Residential. You will provide technical leadership across a major project or a smaller cluster of projects, overseeing the design process from pre-construction and tender stage through to completion.

Working closely with our project, commercial and pre-construction teams, you will ensure designs are coordinated, commercially considered, compliant and practical to build. You will also lead and support the development of design management colleagues across the project.

As our Senior Design Manager, you will:

• Lead the design process from pre-construction through to project completion.
• Coordinate consultants, subcontractors and internal teams to deliver compliant, buildable and commercially considered designs.
• Manage design programmes, technical approvals, risks and changes.
• Support BIM, digital information management and Building Safety requirements.
• Build strong relationships with clients and project stakeholders.
• Lead and develop Design Managers and wider design team colleagues.

You will ideally have:

• Significant design management experience within construction.
• Strong knowledge of CDM requirements, Building Safety Gateways and health and safety legislation.
• Experience managing consultants, design programmes, technical approvals and design change.
• An understanding of BIM, digital information management and the Golden Thread.
• The ability to identify design risks and develop practical, commercially considered solutions.
• Strong leadership, negotiation, presentation and stakeholder-management skills.
• MCIOB status and/or Chartered Engineer or Architect status, or relevant equivalent experience.
