Job description

A global manufacturer based in Kent is looking to recruit a Senior Design Engineer to lead the development of innovative, safety critical products within the healthcare market. Based in Kent, you will benefit from a starting salary of up to £60k plus 10% bonus, hybrid working and benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Designing and developing innovative, safety‑critical products for healthcare applications.
  • Leading the full product lifecycle: concept development, prototyping, testing, validation, and production.
  • Managing projects efficiently, delivering on time, within budget, and keeping stakeholders informed.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and contributing to a collaborative, high‑performing team culture.
  • Creating detailed 3D CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks with PDM.
  • Building and testing prototypes using in‑house tools, 3D printing, and external suppliers.
  • Collaborating with cross‑functional teams including Product Management and Compliance.
  • Overseeing product testing and refining designs based on performance data.
  • Ensuring regulatory compliance with support from internal specialists.
  • Producing comprehensive specifications and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Selecting materials (wood, metal, plastic) and coordinating with suppliers.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands‑on experience in mechanical engineering and full‑cycle product development.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (3D modelling, assemblies, 2D drawings) and PDM systems.
  • Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering results.
  • Proven success in launching products within a relevant industrial sector.
  • Experience working with diverse materials and manufacturing processes (wood machining, metal casting, plastic injection moulding).
  • Confidence in hands‑on prototyping and testing.
  • Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques and materials.
  • Exposure to electro‑mechanical systems.
