Senior Design Engineer (Contract) – Aberdeenshire – Global Leader in Offshore Energy

Join a world‑leading engineering and technology solutions provider to the global offshore energy sector. This is an excellent opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer to contribute to innovative and complex projects, delivering bespoke solutions throughout the full project lifecycle – from concept to commissioning.

Due to sustained growth, the company is seeking a contract Senior Engineer to join their Aberdeen facility. This is a key technical role supporting the design, development and delivery of engineered products and systems, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, standards and best practices.

This is a site‑based position offering the chance to work on cutting‑edge equipment, collaborate across departments and directly influence design outcomes for critical offshore and subsea applications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the production of design and maintenance drawings for manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
  • Lead and review design planning, ensuring control of cost, schedule, and quality throughout the design process.
  • Manage and approve engineering deliverables across the full lifecycle of bespoke systems.
  • Support manufacturing, assembly, and testing through technical workshops and on‑site oversight.
  • Prepare detailed operations, maintenance, and safety manuals for newly designed equipment.
  • Deliver accurate engineering estimates and control design-related expenditure.
  • Conduct and review engineering calculations and manage technical design packages.
  • Drive R&D projects, ensuring innovation, compliance, and resource allocation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams: tendering, projects, and business development.
  • Act as a key technical liaison with client representatives during planning and execution.
  • Ensure project close‑out, lessons learned, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Maintain a strong culture of safety, compliance, and engineering excellence.
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands‑on design experience in Oil & Gas, Subsea, Decommissioning, or Marine Energy projects.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks (preferred) or other professional 3D CAD packages.
  • Experience in subsea hydraulic design, ROV tooling, and decommissioning tools.
  • PDM (product data management) experience.
  • Strong knowledge of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and engineering calculations.
  • Proven ability to lead design teams and deliver complex engineering packages.
  • Thorough understanding of industry codes, standards, and legislative requirements.
