Job summary

VANRATH are recruiting a Senior Design Engineer for their modern manufacturing facility in Campsie, Londonderry, Northern Ireland. You will lead design and development from concept through to production, interfacing with Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams to deliver robust engineering solutions.

You’ll bring a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design, several years’ design engineering experience, and strong 3D CAD skills (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Solid Edge).

Qualifications

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related engineering discipline.
• Several years' experience in a Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer role.
• Strong 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Solid Edge or similar).
• Experience designing products for manufacture within a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change management.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication skills with ability to work across departments.
• Proactive approach with a passion for delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development of new and existing products from concept through to production.
• Produce 3D models, detailed drawings and technical documentation.
• Lead projects from concept, prototyping and testing to full production release.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing to optimise for manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA).
• Coordinate with Production, Quality and Supply Chain to resolve technical challenges.
• Support NPI activities and engineering change processes.
• Carry out design calculations, engineering analysis and product validation.
• Ensure designs comply with industry standards and customer requirements.

This is an exciting opportunity to join an innovative engineering team responsible for designing and developing market-leading products used around the world. You'll take ownership of projects from concept through to production, working closely with Manufacturing, Quality and Supply Chain teams to deliver robust, high-quality engineering solutions.

What You'll Be Doing

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll lead the design and development of new and existing products, ensuring designs meet customer requirements, manufacturing capability and industry standards. Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing and developing new products and improving existing designs.
• Producing 3D models, detailed engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Leading projects from concept, prototyping and testing through to full production release.
• Working closely with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure products are optimised for efficient manufacture and assembly (DFM/DFA).
• Collaborating with Production, Quality and Supply Chain teams to resolve technical challenges.
• Supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) activities and engineering change processes.
• Carrying out design calculations, engineering analysis and product validation where required.
• Ensuring all designs comply with relevant industry standards, specifications and customer requirements.
• Identifying opportunities for product improvement, cost reduction and value engineering.
• Mentoring junior engineers and providing technical guidance across the engineering team.
• Supporting customer meetings and technical discussions when required.

What We're Looking For

• A degree (or equivalent qualification) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or a related engineering discipline.
• Several years' experience within a Design Engineer or Senior Design Engineer position.
• Strong 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, Solid Edge or similar).
• Experience designing products for manufacture within a regulated manufacturing environment.
• A strong understanding of engineering materials, manufacturing processes and assembly techniques.
• Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and engineering change management.
