Overview

Senior Debt Recovery Specialist – Yu Energy

Location: Leicester

Department: YUR - 2120 - Debt Enforcement & Mgt

Reporting to: Collections Manager

Working hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week. Office Based.

Salary: £30,000 – £32,000 per year (subject to Tax and NI)

Bonus: Opportunity to earn £1,250 every 3 months.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively manage the recovery of significantly overdue accounts through outbound contact via phone, email and written correspondence.
  • Handle complex and high-value cases, negotiating payment arrangements or settlements in a professional and commercially sound manner.
  • Proven experience of reducing bad debt provision through successful outcomes.
  • Collaborate with departments including Legal and Customer Service to resolve disputes and ensure smooth recovery processes.
  • Investigate reasons for non-payment, assess risks, and recommend actions to mitigate further exposure.
  • Analyse account data to spot trends and areas for improvement.
  • Provide regular performance updates and reports to senior management.
Qualifications & Skills
  • 5–10 years of proven experience in a debt recovery, credit control or collections role, ideally within the energy or financial services industry.
  • Decisive thinker with the ability to make sound judgments under pressure.
  • Commercial mindset with the ability to balance business goals with fair outcomes for customers.
  • Insightful and able to distinguish between genuine financial hardship and avoidable non-payment.
  • Clear communication skills, confident on the phone and in writing.
  • Collaborative team player who supports colleagues and contributes to shared success.
  • Motivated, resilient, with a positive attitude and willingness to improve.
  • Respectful and personable; professional and courteous in interactions.
  • Detail-oriented and dependable; follows through and does not cut corners.
  • Knowledge of Debt Recovery and Litigation strategies is essential.
