Job summary

Checkout.com is seeking a Staff Data Engineer to join our Data and AI Platform Team. You will build a scalable, AI-powered streaming/data platform to enable hundreds of teams to collect, store and analyse data at scale.

You will mentor engineers, drive architectural decisions, and deliver end-to-end streaming solutions using Kafka, Flink, and AWS on a hybrid London-based team. This is a high-impact role in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Qualifications

• Strong background in data systems with focus on streaming platforms.
• Experience with Kafka-based streaming architectures.
• Proficiency in Flink-based stream processing.
• Cloud experience: AWS (MSK, S3, Lambda, ECS, SNS).
• Kubernetes experience.
• SQL and Java or Python proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Build scalable, fault-tolerant streaming platform with Kafka and Flink.
• Provide leadership and influence across engineering teams.
• Create tooling/docs to enable data publishing and streaming app deployment.
• Deploy infrastructure to host, monitor, and run streaming apps.
• Advise on platform adoption and event-driven use cases across teams.
• Translate requirements into actionable design and plans.
• On-call support for event-based systems and incident analysis.
