Job summary

National Energy System Operator (NESO) invites applications for a Senior Data Scientist to join the Gas and Whole Energy Network Development team. You will develop probabilistic forecasts, build data pipelines, and lead the delivery of analytical insights to support gas network planning and decarbonisation efforts.

In this role you will maintain models, apply robust data science techniques, mentor colleagues, and communicate findings to senior management and external bodies to drive informed

Qualifications

• Experience writing productionised code in R, Python, or similar to drive business decisions.
• Experience developing statistical forecasting models from first principles.
• Adept at using version control and cloud environments as part of a data science team.
• Experience building end-to-end data pipelines and automating data processes.

Responsibilities

• Develop probabilistic forecasts of GB gas demand and supply at regional levels.
• Maintain and run models feeding into gas network planning processes.
• Lead data quality, data handling, and data management within GWEND.
• Communicate technical findings to senior management and external stakeholders to drive impact.
• Lead scoping and planning of data science projects to meet business needs.
