Job summary

Anson McCade is seeking a Senior Data Scientist to lead AI initiatives onsite in Central London, supporting government and national security clients. The role combines hands-on ML delivery with stakeholder engagement and thought leadership on robust, ethical data science practices.

You will deploy models in AWS, mentor junior data scientists and contribute to high-impact analytics and bespoke AI solutions across diverse data types.

Qualifications

  • Degree in quantitative or scientific discipline (BSc, MSc or PhD).
  • Several years of experience as a Data Scientist or in a closely related role.
  • Expert knowledge of ML, AI and statistics across domains (NLP, CV, audio, graphs, time-series, tabular).
  • Strong Python skills with pandas/NumPy/scikit-learn/PyTorch/Transformers/statsmodels/PyMC.
  • Understanding of ML engineering and best practices (version control, packaging, deployment).
  • Experience deploying models in cloud platforms, especially AWS.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Commitment to high-quality, ethical, robust scientific work; awareness of privacy/security policy in AI.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, S3, SageMaker/Bedrock) preferred.
  • Knowledge of ML engineering and MLOps (Docker, MLflow).
  • Experience in government/defence or regulated environments preferred.
  • Experience applying LLMs to real-world problems; UK Security Clearance eligible.

Responsibilities

  • Act as senior technical authority for AI and data science across projects and bids.
  • Lead and deliver complex ML/AI projects with ML engineers and delivery teams.
  • Engage with users to define requirements and AI use cases; plan delivery.
  • Support model design, development and deployment within AWS environments.
  • Contribute to proposals and bid responses with relevant literature.
  • Present technical findings to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior data scientists and graduates; support capability growth.
  • Promote AI knowledge across teams via blogs, events and conferences.
  • Work across government and national security clients in defence, space and public sector.
  • Apply advanced AI/ML methods to diverse data types (text, images, audio, video, graphs, time-series, geospatial).

Salary: £30,000 - 60,000 per year

Requirements:
  • We require a degree (BSc, MSc or PhD) in a quantitative or scientific discipline such as computer science, mathematics, physics or engineering.

  • We require UK Security Clearance, or eligibility and willingness to undergo the vetting process.
