Job summary

Bloomberg London is seeking a backend engineer to join the Data Technologies Pipelines (DTP) team. You will design, build, test, and operate infrastructure for event-driven data pipelines on Kubernetes, using Python/Go and Kafka/S3.

You will own features end-to-end, improve reliability at scale, and collaborate with Bloomberg Engineering and Data teams. You should have 4+ years in backend development, distributed systems experience, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend engineering experience in Python, Go, or comparable language.
• Hands-on experience building distributed systems in production.
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures using Kafka or similar technologies.
• Good understanding of Linux systems, networking, and production debugging.
• A product mindset: impact, UX for developers, and usability.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and operate infrastructure and platform features for event-driven data pipelines.
• Work across the stack to provide simple, reliable user-facing abstractions over complex distributed infrastructure.
• Own systems end-to-end from problem identification to production rollout and on-call support.
• Collaborate with Bloomberg teams to propose improvements and close technical gaps.
• Contribute to operational excellence through testing, monitoring, incident response, and post-incident learning.
