Job summary

Just Eat Takeaway.com seeks an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join the Insights & Enablement team within Retail Media Tech. You will shape the data platform, build scalable pipelines, and deliver data products that help advertisers understand and optimize campaigns across the JET ecosystem.

You’ll work across the full data stack—event streaming, ELT/ETL, and Gold Layer data marts in BigQuery with dbt Core; orchestrate with Airflow; collaborate with data scientists, ML engineers, and product

Qualifications

• Senior-level data engineering experience with distributed systems.
• Strong Python and SQL proficiency; BigQuery experience.
• Hands-on with dbt Core and Airflow at scale.
• Experience building data platforms, data warehouses, and data pipelines.
• Ability to mentor engineers and contribute to engineering standards.

Responsibilities

• Design scalable data pipelines and event streaming architectures focusing on reliability and data quality.
• Develop and maintain Gold Layer data marts in BigQuery using dbt Core.
• Build and maintain Airflow-driven ELT workflows including attribution pipelines.
• Contribute to Retail Media event tracking infrastructure and data quality validation.
• Support semantic layer bridging BigQuery data to BI tools.
• Engage in architecture discussions and platform-level improvements.
• Embed DataOps practices including CI/CD, testing and observability.
• Collaborate with ML engineers to productionize models and tooling.
• Work cross-functionally with Data & Analytics and Platform Engineering teams.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical documentation and standards.

About This Role

We're on the lookout for an experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our Insights & Enablement team within Retail Media Tech at JET. This isn't just any Senior Data Engineer role; you'll be at the heart of our retail media data platform, shaping the infrastructure, pipelines, and data products that help advertisers understand, optimize, and grow their campaigns. In this dynamic position, you'll work across the full stack of modern data engineering-from event streaming and attribution pipelines to Gold Layer data marts and AI-powered tooling. Collaborating closely with data scientists, analytical engineers, product managers, and ML engineers, you'll transform complex data challenges into reliable, scalable production systems. We're building exciting projects like a TopRank Sponsored Listings data platform on BigQuery and dbt, a semantic layer for Tableau and Looker Studio, and agentic AI tooling for Post-Campaign Analysis. You'll have the chance to contribute to all of this! This role thrives in a highly cross-functional environment. You'll collaborate with JET's central Data & Analytics organization, Platform Engineering, and other tech teams to align on shared infrastructure standards and ensure seamless integration of retail media data products within the broader JET data ecosystem. As a senior member of the team, you won't just code; you'll help define best practices, mentor fellow engineers, and elevate the technical standards across the team.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines and event streaming architectures focused on reliability and data quality.
• Develop and maintain Gold Layer data marts in BigQuery using dbt Core, applying top-down/bottom-up data modeling methodologies.
• Build and maintain Airflow-orchestrated ELT workflows, including attribution pipelines for campaign performance measurement.
• Contribute to Retail Media event tracking infrastructure, schema governance, and data quality validation.
• Support the development of a semantic layer bridging BigQuery Gold tables to downstream BI tools.
• Engage in architecture discussions, identifying improvement points and shaping platform-level decisions.
• Embed DataOps best practices across the team, including CI/CD, testing, and observability.
• Collaborate with ML engineers and data scientists to productionize models and AI tooling.
• Work cross-functionally with Data & Analytics, Platform Engineering, and other JET technology teams.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical documentation and engineering standards.

What Will You Bring to the Team?

• Demonstrable senior-level experience in building and delivering data engineering solutions, including distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Strong Python skills and solid SQL experience with BigQuery or equivalent cloud data warehouses; familiarity with Scala or Java is a plus.
• Deep expertise in data pipeline design, including ETL/ELT, schema design, and efficient storage patterns.
• Hands-on experience with dbt Core and Airflow for orchestration and transformation at scale.
• Solid grounding in data warehouse and data lake architecture, including dimensional modeling.
• Production experience with GCP and AWS, comfortable operating across both clouds.
• Familiarity with OLAP and OLTP storage systems, with a desire to build expertise in stream processing technologies.
• Experience with observability tools like Grafana or Datadog, ensuring system health and monitoring.
• Active engagement with AI/ML tooling, integrating AI-assisted development tools into your workflow.
• A track record of contributing to design decisions and supporting the growth of colleagues.
• Comfortable working in a matrixed, cross-functional environment, shaping technical decisions beyond Insights & Enablement.
