Job description

We're looking for a talented and driven Senior Data Analyst to join our data team. This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of a data‑led organisation, helping shape the future of higher education through evidence‑based regulation and strategy.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement analytical workflows to extract meaning from complex datasets.
  • Use techniques including data transformation, visualisation, statistical modelling, and data science to generate insights.
  • Communicate findings clearly to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Support the development of analytical methodologies, systems, and processes.
  • Collaborate with Analytics Engineering and the wider to ensure data meets business needs and is accessible via the OfS data model.
  • Build and maintain self‑service data applications for internal and external users.
  • Advocate for an evidence‑led culture and contribute to enhancing the organisation's data capability.
Working Arrangements

At the OfS, we recognise that flexibility can enable people to work more effectively. A set of organisation‑wide principles shape our approach to flexible and hybrid working, which our teams then use as guidance on how they deliver their business goals. This would usually mean working from the office for two or three days in a typical week. To attract the widest possible field of qualified applicants, flexible working— including job share and part‑time working— is encouraged for this role.

Core Requirements
  • Adaptable and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
  • A strong communicator, able to explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Logical, analytical, and pragmatic in problem‑solving.
  • Experienced in working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Familiar with the modern data stack and agile working practices.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Strong SQL and/or Python (or equivalent language).
  • Experience with application of artificial intelligence solutions, statistical methods, data modelling, cleansing, enrichment, and/or visualisation.
  • Knowledge of Databricks or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of GIT and version control.
  • Awareness of government DDAT capability framework for data analysts.
  • Ability to manage projects and deliver at pace.
  • Competency in communicating and influencing across diverse audiences.
