Overview

Join Virgin Media O2 as a Senior Cyber Security Engineer and play a key role in protecting the networks and systems that keep millions of customers connected. You’ll be part of a national team of security specialists focused on delivering secure, reliable, and innovative solutions for our business and public sector clients. This role requires travel to our Peterborough office twice a week with flexibility as required.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical guidance and hands-on support across security operations and customer environments
  • Collaborate with teams across Virgin Media Business and Liberty Global to design, deploy, and enhance world-class cyber security solutions
  • Contribute to technical reviews, testing, and implementation of new products and services
  • Support complex problem-solving, on-site consultancy, and change delivery in secure environments (including PSN-P / IL3)
  • Stay ahead of emerging threats and technologies, helping shape our approach to cyber resilience

You’ll work closely with our Pre-sales, Design, and Product teams to make sure security is built into every solution from day one. This role involves participation in an on-call rota and requires NPPV3 + SC clearance due to the sensitive nature of some projects.

Qualifications

The must haves

  • Palo Alto PCNSA certification or equivalent hands-on experience, including detailed knowledge of Strata Cloud Suite.
  • Demonstrable track record with Cisco routing and switching technologies, with proven experience configuring and troubleshooting complex LAN/WAN networks.
  • Proven ability to implement and support complex security solutions and maintain PSN-P (IL3) compliance beneficial
  • Ability to work across secure environments and obtain NPPV3 + SC clearance.
  • Willingness to participate in a 24x7 on-call rota and provide out-of-hours support

The other stuff we are looking for

  • Vendor-specific certifications beyond the essentials, e.g., Fortinet, Cisco Security, Versa
  • Experience with cloud security platforms and hybrid environments.
  • Hands-on experience working under a change process
  • Experience working within public sector security frameworks and compliance.
  • Experience conducting fault analysis and security investigations, including but not limited to intrusion detection, unauthorized access, and broader security incident handling
