Job summary

Dstl in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced cyber and engineering professional to join a multidisciplinary team. You will apply technical expertise to understand, analyse and exploit complex communications, networks and digital systems, generating insights that support national security and defence outcomes.

You will lead technical activities, mentor colleagues and develop analytical techniques while collaborating with experts to deliver innovative solutions for government and defence

Qualifications

• A STEM degree or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience using Python, C or C++.
• Understanding of computer networking and protocols.
• Experience with Linux and command-line environments.
• Experience with Wireshark, Ghidra or similar tools.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly.
• Experience coaching or mentoring others.

Responsibilities

• Analyse communications, networks, devices and digital systems to generate technical intelligence.
• Investigate protocols and understand their operation across architectures.
• Examine data from network captures, wireless and device interfaces.
• Develop tools, scripts and bespoke techniques to solve challenges.
• Identify system behaviours and opportunities to improve understanding.
• Produce clear, authoritative technical reports for stakeholders.
• Lead technical activities, mentor colleagues and shape capabilities.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions.
• Contribute to continuous improvement, safety and security.
