Job overview

To take an active part in the provision of the CT service whilst maintaining the highest standards of CT imaging and patient care at all times, this requires accuracy and dexterity. To offer specialist advice, competently undertake imaging techniques, planning and prioritising own and departmental workload utilising specialist skills. To be a good example to and train radiographers, student radiographers and other health care workers and help them to develop into skilled professionals.

Main duties of the job
  • To be a specialist in carrying out and supervising more complex CT scanning.
  • To perform clinical CT scans to produce diagnostic information appropriately as required by current protocols.
  • To ensure that all examinations are justified as per the IRMER 2017 Regulations and fulfil the role of operator. Minimise radiation dose levels as low as reasonably practical.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To be a specialist in carrying out and supervising more complex CT scanning.
  • To perform clinical CT scans to produce diagnostic information appropriately as required by current protocols.
  • To ensure that all examinations are justified as per the IRMER 2017 Regulations and fulfil the role of operator. Minimise radiation dose levels as low as reasonably practical.
  • Act in an advisory capacity, setting protocols for safe practice in specialist area and be lead specialist for advice concerning safety in the CT environment.
  • To maintain the highest standard of practical and theoretical knowledge to ensure a standard of excellence in CT techniques, modifying protocols appropriately to clinical condition, image findings or patient condition and problems in image acquisition are recognised and acted upon.
  • To be aware of the health and safety at work act and ensure guidelines are followed.
  • To take the lead role in research and audit, QA and equipment testing.
  • To maintain appropriate clinical records and update CRIS where appropriate.
  • To be responsible for and write policies, procedures and protocols for specialist area which impact the department.
  • To be able to physically position patients for their images in a safe manner.
  • To advise and liaise with clinical staff regarding the appropriateness of imaging referrals.
  • To be responsible for the recruitment, appraisal and initial disciplinary procedures for the department.
  • To be responsible for the safe use and maintenance of CT equipment, arranging service visits and maintaining records.
  • To order and maintain stock levels ensuring best value for the Trust.
  • To participate in the CT rotation including on calls, weekend work and out of hours
  • To provide senior CT support to the CT service where required
Person specification
Essential criteria
  • BSc in Diagnostic Radiography • HCPC registered
  • Significant CT experience
  • Cannulation Course
  • Sound understanding of CT Physics, anatomy and protocols
Desirable criteria
  • CTCA Experience
  • Colonography certificate

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
