Overview
Morson Talent offers a Senior Cost Engineer role in a major infrastructure project in Somerset. Contract role (renewable) inside IR 35. All-inclusive rates.
Scope
Senior Cost Engineer acts as an expert of Cost and Forecasting across the project, providing technical leadership, ensuring implementation of processes, supporting governance for Integrated Project Controls Discipline, delivering specific contracts ranging from £10M to £500M, and directing workload for Cost Engineers or Trainee Cost Engineers.
Principal Accountabilities
- Face of Cost and Forecasting management in the nominated Programme/Area, delivering confidence to stakeholders.
- Produce and maintain accurate cost and forecasting aligned with CBS/WBS.
- Assure maintenance of Cost and Forecasting data within software systems (EcoSys, SAP).
- Deliver Cost and Forecasting reports with commentary on key drivers.
- Review and challenge significant issues impacting programme objectives.
- Support issue and opportunity reviews, workshops, and specialist sessions (scenario planning).
- Analyse Cost and Forecasting data, connecting across the project, with controls managers and risk leads.
- Challenge uncertainties over time to prioritise decision making.
- Maintain a comprehensive Cost and Forecasting portfolio reflective of current position.
- Work with IPC to align schedule and cost estimates with high quality risk information.
- Support programme/area teams and Tier 1 contractors on contractor-held data and risks.
- Identify enhancements to procedures, reporting, and tools.
- Manage and verify information within PowerBI dashboards, proposing improvements.
- Lead training on Cost and Forecasting software and recommend additional training.

- Practical experience of wider project controls disciplines integrating with schedule, risk, and change.
- Understands impact of changes/decisions on programme delivery.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Facilitate Cost and Forecasting conversations with all levels including executive leadership.
- Communicate complex issues and concepts simply to technical and non-technical senior audiences.
- Strong organisational and time management skills; prioritise and delegate tasks.

- Collaborate across organisational boundaries for mutually successful outcomes.

- Expertise in Cost and Forecasting management software, guide others.

Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum of HND or equivalent qualification in project management, project controls, engineering, or related field.
- Cost and Forecasting Specific Qualifications or equivalent.
- Experience in a Project Management environment.
- At least ten years senior level experience in a Cost and Forecasting team in a complex, highly regulated industry (ideally nuclear or energy).
- Demonstrable experience as an expert in a project controls discipline.
- Expert knowledge of Cost and Forecasting tools and techniques.
- Experience of working on a major construction project desirable.
- Experience of working in the Nuclear Industry or other highly regulated industry desirable.
