Job summary

HCR Law in Cheltenham is recruiting a Legal Director/Partner for the Education team to lead corporate matters for educational institutions. You will advise on governance, transactions, and growth strategies, working with Boards of Governors and school leaders.

You will regularly engage with independent schools, academies and universities, mentoring junior colleagues while driving business development and delivering pragmatic, commercially focused advice.

Qualifications

• Strong corporate experience at senior level (Legal Director/Partner).
• Solid grounding in transactions and day‑to‑day matters.
• Interest or experience in education and/or charity sectors.
• Confidence in winning work and developing contacts.
• Excellent drafting skills and technical ability.
• Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic mindset.
• A collaborative leadership style with mentoring focus.

Responsibilities

• Lead on corporate education matters for the Education team.
• Handle sales and acquisitions of independent schools and school groups.
• Oversee charitable mergers, restructurings and collaborations.
• Support long-term sustainability and growth projects.
• Direct governance and constitutional work and client relationship management.
• Develop business through referrals and client training.
