Job summary

Dematic is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design and implementation of controls solutions for world-class automated material handling systems. You will deliver PLC/SCADA software, test and commission on-site, while managing safety, quality and budget constraints.

The role requires extensive hands-on automation experience, Siemens S7/TIA Portal proficiency, and the ability to travel up to 60% across the UK and EMEA.

Qualifications

• Bachelors or Masters in Engineering preferred; HNC/HND considered for Electrical/Mechatronics/Controls.
• Ability to lead engineering activities autonomously on projects.
• Experience designing controls systems in Siemens S7 or TIA Portal.
• Hands-on experience in industrial automation environments.
• Proficiency with PLC development tools and industrial networks (Profinet/Profibus/ASi/EthernetIP).
• Knowledge of E-plan is desirable but not essential.
• Understanding of Machine Directive and related standards.
• Full UK Driving Licence; travel up to 60% across UK/EMEA.

Responsibilities

• Emulate control systems in a virtual environment and test PLC software.
• Interpret electrical schematics and input data for design.
• Lead controls engineering activities in project design and implementation.
• Ensure CE compliance with Machinery Directive across systems.
• Produce documentation including design specs, calculations and risk assessments.
• Commission controls on site and support system commissioning and end-user training.
• Maintain relationships with customers and provide high-quality service.
• Promote continuous improvement of processes for better time, cost and quality.

As a Senior Controls Engineer, you will lead and manage the design and implementation of controls solutions for world-class automated material handling systems and execute this by ensuring consistent standards and driving continuous improvement within the design team.

You will leverage your expertise in controls engineering to provide software design for PLC's, HMI's, and SCADA systems following this through to the testing and commissioning phases while having an awareness of the cost, timescale, and requirements of the material handling project.

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver the assigned project scope and tasks by meeting\exceeding our safety, quality, On-Time-Delivery and budget requirements.
• Produce PLC software and/or visualization systems.
• Emulate the control system in a virtual environment and test PLC software.

• Ensure systems designed and supplied are CE Compliant to the Machinery Directive
• Produce of all associated documentation including, but not limited to, design calculations, design specifications, Method Statements and Risk Assessments, operation and maintenance manuals, and test specifications.
• Commission controls systems on site and to provide support to system commissioning activities and training for the end user.
• Maintain good relationships with all internal and external customers, through the provision of a high-quality service.
• Promote personal and business continuous improvement and development of processes to achieve improved time cost and quality or project delivery.

Qualifications & Experience:

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering is desirable however those with a HNC/HND in Electrical/Mechatronics/Controls Engineering will also be considered.
• Ability to lead engineering activities autonomously on projects and provide support to other engineers in the team.
• Experience in designing controls systems in Siemens S7 or TIA Portal.
• Extensive proven hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment.
• Advanced understanding of PLC development tools.
• Proficient with Industrial Networks such as Profinet, Profibus, ASi, EthernetIP or similar.
• Experience working with E-plan is desirable not essential.
• Good understanding of Electrical and Electronic technical manuals & drawings.
• Understanding of design requirements such as Machine Directive and its standards.
• Good understanding of distributed control systems.
• Extensive understanding of software testing and emulation.
• Full UK Driving Licence as the position will require travel up to 60% of the time to customer sites both in the UK and across EMEA.
