High Speed Two Ltd is seeking a Senior Command, Control & Signalling Engineer to join the CCS Technical Authority. The role focuses on technical assurance across design, construction, testing and commissioning for a new high-speed railway in the UK.

Location: London Euston or Birmingham, hybrid, with 3 days in the office. The package includes a market salary with significant pension and healthcare benefits.

Shape the Signalling System for the UK's New High Speed Railway

Are you a senior signalling engineer with a strong understanding of how a complete railway signalling system works?

Do you have experience on major resignalling or complex rail infrastructure projects and understand how signalling systems support railway operations?

High Speed Two Ltd is looking for a Senior Command, Control & Signalling Engineer to join its specialist CCS Technical Authority team.

This is an opportunity to work directly for HS2 and help assure the signalling system for a completely new high speed railway. HS2 is developing an advanced control and signalling environment incorporating ETCS and ATO, although previous ETCS or ATO experience is not essential.

What matters is your understanding of the wider CCS system, including interlocking, control systems, train detection and their relationship with railway operations.

The Opportunity

The CCS Technical Authority has established the strategy, requirements and technical definition for the HS2 signalling system.

As the programme moves into delivery, you will provide technical assurance across design, construction, testing and commissioning, working with the supply chain to ensure the system meets HS2 requirements.

You will work closely with the Lead CCS Engineer and wider engineering teams, providing technical advice, resolving complex issues and ensuring CCS integrates effectively with the wider railway.

The role would suit someone who has progressed beyond pure project engineering and has strong design or technical assurance experience. You might currently be a Senior Signalling Engineer, Signalling Design Manager, Engineering Manager, Solution Architect or Technical Authority.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical expertise across Command, Control & Signalling.
• Support technical assurance of CCS design, construction, testing and commissioning.
• Review and challenge signalling solutions against HS2 requirements, standards and operational needs.
• Provide technical input across interlocking, control systems, train detection and wider CCS systems.
• Manage technical interfaces between CCS, other railway systems, Network Rail and third parties.
• Support the development and application of technical requirements, specifications and standards.
• Identify and manage technical risks and support resolution of complex engineering issues.
• Provide technical advice to HS2 teams, designers, contractors and other stakeholders.
• Work with wider engineering disciplines to ensure a fully integrated railway solution.

About You

We are looking for a senior signalling professional with the technical depth to operate as a CCS Subject Matter Expert.

You will have a thorough understanding of Control, Command & Signalling systems and how they support railway operations, with knowledge across several areas of CCS rather than a single specialist discipline.

You will ideally have:

• Significant signalling engineering experience on major rail infrastructure or resignalling projects.
• Strong understanding of interlocking, control systems and train detection.
• Experience understanding how a complete signalling system is designed and how its components interface.
• Design, engineering management or technical assurance experience.
• Experience developing, reviewing or assuring technical requirements and engineering solutions.
• Strong understanding of railway standards and their application.
• Experience working across complex multidisciplinary rail programmes.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

ETCS and ATO experience would be advantageous but is not essential.

Experience of the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment would also be beneficial.

We are open to candidates from contractor, consultant and client side backgrounds. Chartered Engineer status, working towards chartership or equivalent professional experience would be welcomed.

High Speed Two is a long term programme extending through to 2039, providing the opportunity to build experience across one of the UK's largest and most technically complex rail programmes.

There is a clear progression route to Lead CCS Engineer, with salaries of approximately £90,000 to £100,000 plus package.

As HS2 moves through design, construction, testing and commissioning, you will gain experience across the complete lifecycle of a new high speed railway.
