Job summary

GE Vernova’s North Europe Grid Solutions team seeks a Senior Control Automation System Engineer to lead the digital control system design for HVDC Control & Protection, including IEC 61850 implementation, network and cybersecurity design, and system deployment across UK, Ireland and Scandinavia.

You will drive requirements, architecture, and project delivery while mentoring colleagues and ensuring quality deliverables on time and within cost.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electronics / Electrical engineering or related field.
• Strong background in configuring Substation Bay Controllers/Merging Units/ IEC61850 IEDs.
• Extensively demonstrated years’ experience in control and protection system design.
• Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as IEC61850 and Ethernet based protocols.
• Control & Protection Relay logics design techniques.
• Experience developing electrical designs for industrial control systems.
• Knowledge of communication networks security/hardening and cybersecurity best practices.
• Familiarity with Layer2/3 protocols (IPv4, OSPF, DMZ, VPN, DMS/ADMS, DNP, Modbus).
• Experience in electrical power systems and Substation automation engineering.
• Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection systems and Digital Control Systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead the requirement, design, implementation and development of the digital control system for HVDC control & protection.
• Oversee the overall technical solution that meets customer requirements based on reference solutions.
• Design the control system architecture and network communications.
• Implement IEC 61850, system integration and deployment, plus cybersecurity measures.
• Train and interface with customers; mentor department talent.
• Ensure design documents are reviewed, approved and delivered on time and within cost.

• provide technical guidance, mentoring, drive consistent design practices, common global processes for projects implementation and provide technical solution that meets the NPI, project delivery and Tender objectives.

Job Description

This role is responsible to lead the requirement, design, implementation, and development of digital control system of the HVDC Control & Protection system.

Roles And Responsibilities

Overseeing the overall technical solution that meets customer Requirement based on reference Solution.

This Includes The Following Actives

• Requirement & Design
• Overall Control System Architecture & communication networks Architecture
• IEC 61850 Implementation, system integration and system deployment
• Overall System Level Cybersecurity
• Overall Network design of the control & Protection System
• Customer interface and training
• Responsible for leading overall requirement, design, implementation, and development of digital control system of the HVDC Control & Protection system this includes network & Cybersecurity design
• Be the owner of all aspects of HVDC IEC 61850 Implementation and system deployment, system Configuration, and validation, as well as all usual integration challenges of the control & protection system
• Implement and maintain the control & protection system reference and customer solutions
• Execute and provide guidance for the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
• Responsible for coaching and developing department talent.
• Uses judgment to make decisions or solve moderately complex tasks or problems in areas of operational/product management, manufacturing, technology or engineering. Takes new perspective on existing solutions. Uses technical experience and expertise for data analysis to support recommendations.
• Continuously improving the product in terms of delivery speed, stability and reliability
• Ensure security and compliance standards are taken into consideration into the design decisions
• Review and approve design documents, implement, and ensures quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Electronics / Electrical engineering or related field.

• Excellent knowledge of commonly used Layer2&3 protocols such as Ipv4,OSPF,LACP,DMZ,VPN/ DMS/ADMS/ DNP, IEC, Modbus.
• Experience relevant to electrical power systems and Substation automation engineering.
• Working knowledge of industrial and utility electrical control and protection systems and Digital Control Systems, Substation Automation and SCADA.
