Job summary

Staffordshire County Council’s in-house Staffordshire Legal Services is seeking a Solicitor to provide high‑level advice on commercial contracts and procurement, supporting major projects and complex arrangements. You will work on governance matters and supervise junior staff, with flexible hybrid working from the Stafford office.

The role requires substantial public sector experience, strong drafting skills, and the ability to deliver pragmatic commercial solutions while managing a varied

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor or CILEX with practice rights, or Barrister.
• Significant experience advising on commercial contracts and public procurement in local government or similar environment.
• Experience supporting major projects, construction matters, and subsidy control issues.
• Ability to advise senior officers and elected members on complex governance matters.
• Experience supervising/mentoring junior lawyers or staff.
• Experience contributing to service improvement and development of precedents.

Responsibilities

• Providing complex legal, commercial and procurement advice across a wide range of matters.
• Reviewing and drafting complex agreements including frameworks and contracts.
• Advising on major projects and coordinating across the project team.
• Managing own caseload with limited supervision.
• Advising on Council Constitution and governance reports.
• Supervising staff and delivering training where necessary.
• Recording time in accordance with time recording systems.
