Job summary

A global energy consultancy in Aberdeen City is seeking a Contract Adviser for a 12-month fixed-term role. This position involves supporting engineering and advisory functions while ensuring compliance with contractual obligations. Job description

A 12-month fixed-term role within a global energy consultancy supporting engineering, advisory and environmental work across the wider energy sector, including oil and gas and a range of renewable technologies such as offshore wind. The position provides contract and commercial support across proposals and live project activity, advising on contractual risks, contributing to tender preparation and ensuring governance requirements, commercial considerations and contractual obligations are consistently applied across the business.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating contractual risk across client contracts, subcontracts, NDAs and related agreements.
  • Leading negotiations on contracts, amendments, renewals and annual rate reviews.
  • Attending client negotiation meetings and performance reviews.
  • Drafting contractual documents including amendments, novations, assignments, NDAs and release or reliance letters.
  • Supporting the resolution of contractual disputes during project delivery.
  • Providing commercial input to proposals to ensure legal and commercial risks are understood.
  • Leading continuous improvement activity across commercial and contractual processes.
  • Providing guidance, training and awareness on contractual and commercial matters to the wider business.
  • Mentoring and supporting the development of contract advisors.
  • Monitoring and reporting on project commercial performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with governance policies, procedures and project controls.
  • Maintaining contract templates, management processes and commercial guidelines.
  • Supporting due diligence on new opportunities, clients, suppliers and prospective acquisitions.
  • Undertaking commercial reviews of high value or complex proposals and framework agreements.
  • Assisting with the set-up of new corporate entities.
  • Liaising with stakeholders to obtain bonds and guarantees.
  • Providing advice on insurance coverage requirements.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating subcontract agreements.
About You:
  • Demonstrable experience in client and supplier facing commercial contracts.
  • Knowledge of commercial and legal principles relevant to contract management.
  • Understand contract law and applicable regulations.
  • Confident negotiating contractual terms with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy capability.
  • High proficiency in MS Office.
  • Comfortable responding to changing business needs.
  • Prepared to use initiative where appropriate.
  • Experience gained in an engineering or energy consultancy environment is advantageous.
