Job summary

Saab UK is expanding its Saab Seaeye team in Fareham and seeks an experienced Compliance Engineer to ensure product designs meet applicable standards. The role requires coordinating with engineering, production and external labs to maintain compliant documentation and test plans.

You will monitor new regulations, prepare technical files and report to internal stakeholders. The position involves occasional travel and collaboration to deliver compliant underwater robotics solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, graduate certificate or Diploma in Electrical / Electronic Engineering.
  • Knowledge of EN 61010 and EN 60204 safety standards.
  • Working knowledge of EMC standards for CE/FCC compliance.
  • Experience with environmental testing per CE LVD requirements.
  • Understanding of mechanical principles in components/assemblies.
  • Familiar with PCB layouts and wiring practices.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance of product designs to national/international standards.
  • Coordinate compliance activities across engineering and external bodies.
  • Create and maintain technical files and declarations for standards.
  • Plan and execute test accreditation activities with labs.
  • Analyze test results to update compliance verification plans.

  • Travel domestically and internationally as required.

Introduction This role is part of our Saab Seaeye business unit in Fareham. We are looking for an experienced Compliance Engineer to join our underwater robotics business in Fareham. The role will be tasked with the following: To ensure compliance of Saab Seaeye’s designs and products to applicable standards and regulations. To work with minimal supervision on your own and/or within project teams, directing and managing others within the Compliance domain, co-ordinate compliance activities between the Engineering Department, other areas of the business and external organisations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Control and maintain compliance of the company’s products to applicable national and international regulatory standards including EU Directives (CE), UL and FCC, and industry standards and guidelines including DNV, Norsok, IMCA and Lloyds Register
  • Create and maintain technical files and declarations that satisfy the requirements of the above standards and directives
  • Monitor and report on new and updated regulations and standards and their impacts on the company’s products
  • Liaise directly with internal development and production teams and external test laboratories and notified bodies to plan, co-ordinate and execute test accreditation activities
  • Analyse internal and external test results and reports, and use the findings to generate updated compliance verification and test plans and provide guidance to design engineering teams to help them to deliver compliant product solutions
  • Report on and present product compliance status to internal stakeholders and auditors
  • Create technical compliance assessments in response to end user contractual requirements
  • Contribute to design review and the release of new products and product upgrades to ensure that all new products are developed in a manner that is suitable for standards accreditation
  • Take part in the engineering change process to ensure ongoing product compliance
  • Contribute to the continual development and improvement of the department’s processes and procedures and the sharing of knowledge and best practice as required
  • National and (occasional) international travel in support of the company’s objectives
  • Conduct activities in a professional manner
  • Continually improve personal skills through training and awareness
  • To undertake any other duties as appropriate within their competence, as required by their Supervisor or Manager from time to time
Qualifications and Skills
  • Essential Bachelor’s degree, graduate certificate or Diploma in in Electrical / Electronic Engineering
  • Working knowledge EN 61010 and EN 60204 LVD safety standards
  • Working knowledge of EMC standards and directives for CE / FCC
  • Working knowledge of Environmental testing associated with requirements under CE LVD safety standards
  • Understanding of mechanical principles associated with manufactured components / assemblies
  • Working knowledge of electronic systems / assemblies in relation to component recognition, PCB’s, Wiring
  • Self-starter able to prioritise workload in relation to set priorities in relation to project aspects, and to deliver assigned standard work
  • Able to work as an individual, and as part of a team delivering with equal performance
  • Personable and approachable
  • Confident to interact with 3rd party service providers representing the business
  • Confident to interact with all levels of staff within the business including senior managers & directors
  • Desirable In depth knowledge of PCB layout and manufacturing systems
  • Desirable Understanding of creepage ‘n’ clearance requirements in relation to Pollution degree levels
  • Desirable In depth knowledge of reviewing designs to determine critical components
  • Desirable In depth knowledge of insulation barrier requirements within an electrical design
  • Desirable In depth knowledge of EMC principles and requirement of the testing for immunity & emissions levels to IEC 61000 standards
  • Desirable Exposure to working with marine products under EN 60945 (Metallic hulled ships)
  • Desirable Working knowledge / in depth knowledge of DNV Rules as applied to Metallic hulled ships and associated on board equipment
  • Desirable Working knowledge of other maritime organisational rules / directives / standards e.g. Norsok, IMCA and Lloyds Register
  • Desirable In depth knowledge of mechanical principles / design / manufacture
