Job description

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are looking for a new Senior Community Flooding Officer, to support the Flood Resilience Manager and mentor other officers while leading complex community engagement efforts. You’ll provide expert guidance during flood events and help shape local resilience strategies, bridging frontline operations with strategic planning to ensure communities are informed and empowered.

You’ll proactively engage with customers and stakeholders, promoting flood awareness and practical solutions like SuDS and nature-based approaches. During storm events, you’ll triage incidents, assess flooding impacts, and coordinate with agencies like the Environment Agency to ensure effective response and communication.

Some of your other key accountabilities will include:

  • Provide guidance and coaching to Flood Resilience Officers, act as a senior contact, and deputise for the Flood Resilience Manager during storm responses and stakeholder meetings.
  • Lead impactful engagement with communities and councils, delivering advanced education sessions to raise flood resilience awareness.
  • Coordinate field operations during storm events, triage incidents, oversee visual assessments, and ensure accurate reporting to authorities like the Environment Agency.
  • Build strong relationships with external stakeholders, represent Severn Trent at public forums, and use community feedback to inform future planning and investment.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

You’ll bring proven experience in customer-facing or community engagement roles, with a strong grasp of flood risk management and relevant legislation. Your understanding of Risk Management Authorities and ability to mentor colleagues will be key, alongside (preferably) experience in incident response and Bronze or Silver Incident Training.

A comprehensive training package will support you in delivering the best outcomes for customers.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome and celebrate diverse individuals, knowing they help us better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

  • 28 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £2,250, which is subject to eligibility)
  • Family‑friendly policies (including a year off fully paid maternity and adoption leave)
  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent plc shares at a discounted rate
  • Dedicated training and development with our Academy
  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers
  • Two paid volunteering days per year
