Start Date: January 2026

Duration: 12–15 month contract initially

Rate: Negotiable daily rate (Inside IR35)

Working Pattern: Predominantly remote, 1 day on-site per week

About the Role

Our clientis seeking an experienced Senior Communications Officerto join the team. This role will support the delivery of high-quality, strategic communications across theorganisation, helping to inform residents, stakeholders, and partners while enhancing the councils’ visibility and reputation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead on the planning, development, and execution of multi-channel communications campaigns
  • Provide expert advice to senior officers and elected members on communications strategy and media handling
  • Produce clear, engaging content for digital platforms, press releases, newsletters, and internal communications
  • Manage relationships with media, partners, and internal stakeholders
  • Support crisis communications and reactive media enquiries
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of communication processes, brand consistency, and audience engagement
Essential Requirements
  • Local government communications experience, youmust have a strong track record working within a council or similar public-sector organisation
  • Proven ability to manage complex communications activity across multiple projects
  • Excellent writing, editing, and content creation skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and the ability to work in a politically sensitive environment
  • Confidence in handling media and delivering strategic advice
  • Ability to work largely remotely while maintaining effective team collaboration
