Job description

Oxford Population Health (Nuffield Department of Population Health, University of Oxford, Old Road Campus, Headington, Oxford, OX3 7LF)

Oxford Population Health (the Nuffield Department of Population Health) is a global pioneer and leader in population health science. The department has around 1000 staff, students and academic visitors working in a number of world-renowned research groups to investigate the causes and prevention of disease and lead human health forward.

The Senior Communications Officer will work with the Director of Communications and Public Engagement and colleagues across the department, developing communications that support the department’s strategic objectives, with a focus on internal and cross-departmental communications, digital media production and corporate communications.

You will develop communications plans and create content for a range of audiences, channels, projects, campaigns and events, and evaluate communications activity to help shape future plans.

The role includes organising internal events and meetings, coordinating media relations, and championing consistent use of department and University branding. You will also line manage the Communications Assistant.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have relevant experience in scientific or corporate communications. You’ll bring excellent writing and oral communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to explain complex scientific and technical ideas clearly to non-specialist audiences. Strong research and analytical skills, effective relationship-building, and the ability to work independently and manage competing priorities are also essential.

The post is full-time (part-time considered) and fixed-term for one year in the first instance.
