Job description
Summary

Want your communications skills to help slow down climate change? This role puts you at the heart of climate action with states and regions-tackling methane emissions and unlocking climate finance, two powerful levers we're focusing on.

About the role

The Senior Communications Officer role is a new role within the Communications team, focusing on our Government and Policy work. It's critical for our mission to drive climate action, fast, at the subnational level. The role requires comms and marketing expertise, experience with social media, and a good understanding of climate change, the workings of governments, and political influencing.

From day-to-day, this role works very closely with colleagues in our Government and Policy team and draws on the expertise of our UK-based communications team, our marketing team and communications colleagues in our offices in New York, New Delhi and in China.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Coordinate and drive the comms around the Subnational Methane Action Coalition (SMAC) in line with the comms strategy, with the aim to raise its profile and its membership growth.
  • Feed into and execute integrated communications campaigns in the run up to COP31 and COP32, focused on the importance of climate finance for subnational governments (states and regions).
  • Generate and communicate compelling PRs, stories, blogs, case studies, social media posts, scripts and thought leadership pieces that promote our projects and their impact, and the Governments of the Under2 Coalition and Subnational Methane Action Coalition.
  • Help shape the media impact of Climate Group's Governments & Policy team by landing stories with media directly.
  • Support the Senior Communications Manager Governments & Policy in their work, with a focus on Climate Group's projects, its work with the Under2 Coalition and subnational governments more broadly, and key events.
  • Work across all communications channels, including media, digital, social and events.
  • Help shape Under2 Coalition and SMAC sessions for our key flagship events (Climate Week NYC, Climate Group Asia Action Summit, COPs) and other opportunities.
  • Strengthen the profile of senior colleagues through their (social) media presence and other opportunities such as events and speaking opportunities, building relationships with key stakeholders and governments along the way.
  • Play an active role in the global communications team, including supporting the comms side of organisation-wide projects such as Climate Week NYC.

As a mission-driven organisation, we may ask colleagues to take on temporary assignments or secondments in a different team to support organisational priorities. We see these as opportunities for development and internal mobility, managed transparently and with appropriate support.

About you

We value strengths and the desire to learn - if you meet the majority of the criteria listed below, please apply.
