Overview

Senior Communications Officer – Contract (Temporary for 3+ months)

Pay rate: £22.75 per hour • Hours: full time, 37 hours per week (Mon to Fri, 9:00am to 5:30pm) • Start date: Immediate

Work schedule: Mix of remote working and site visits. Office location: The Gateway, Gatehouse Road, Aylesbury, HP19 8FF.

About the role

Pertemps Recruitment, in partnership with Buckinghamshire Council, invites you to join the Communications & Engagement team to support the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) service.

You will play a key role in developing and implementing communication strategies to support the SEND service.

What you’ll be doing
  • Developing and implementing communication strategies
  • Drafting press releases and newsletters
  • Managing internal and external communications
  • Coordinating with the Communications Manager, collaborating closely with the SEND service team, and providing updates to the Head of SEND Improvement
  • Organising events, maintaining the service’s online presence, and responding to media inquiries as needed
What we’re looking for

We’re seeking candidates who can hit the ground running with strong experience in communications within the SEND service, ideally within a local authority setting. You will need:

  • Proven experience in communications, ideally within a public sector or SEND context
  • Strong writing, editing, and presentation skills to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences
  • Ability to collaborate across directorates and work closely with both the communications manager and SEND service teams
  • Demonstrated understanding of policy and communications strategies relevant to SEND improvement initiatives
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders
