Job description

Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Senior Commercial Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

Responsibilities
  • Financial management of the MEH scope of NZT from inception, including tendering, negotiation, contract agreement, and commercial delivery of the projects.
  • Lead the commercial and financial success of the project, managing risk, procurement, contract administration, financial reporting, and supply chain activities.
  • Management of commercial aspects with suppliers, customers and stakeholders to ensure the project remains on plan.
  • Co‑ordination of buying, accounts, production control/planning, supply‑chain management, procurement techniques, estimating and surveying functions.
  • Management and reporting of commercial risk and opportunity, and disallowed costs.
  • Accountability for commercial administration.
  • Provide commercial input to buildability and value‑engineering reviews.
  • Manage the feedback of commercial data to planning and estimating.
  • Maximise digital opportunities and support tender and cost data reviews.
  • Prepare target cost for a project and manage earned‑value management.
  • Coordinate the commercial team to identify and action programme issues.
  • Prepare monthly cost and value reconciliation (CVR) and related commercial reports.
  • Report and explain the commercial aspects of a project to stakeholders.
  • Manage feedback of commercial data to planning, estimating, marketing and sales procurement.
  • Establish client supply‑chain requirements and advise on alternative contract and procurement arrangements.
  • Formulate and manage resource‑procurement plans.
  • Recruit, manage, develop and retain commercial staff.
  • Adhere to the company’s governance requirements and maximise LEAN and digital opportunities.
  • Understand how economic factors affect the construction industry, disputes resolution options, legal liaising, and prepare estimates and tender submissions.
  • Represent the financial and contractual interests to the client throughout the project.
  • Maintain continuing professional development and respond proactively to customer requirements.
Qualifications
  • Track record of managing and developing a commercial team.
  • Chartered Member of RICS, ICES or CIOB (or working towards).
  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent.
  • CSCS Card (Professional Qualified Person).
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with experience in risk management, procurement, contract administration, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to see the big picture and apply economic and legal knowledge within construction projects.
