Job summary

Jagex: The RuneScape Company is seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to own our cloud infrastructure. You will lead the AWS migration, shape architecture, and advance our hybrid platform for RuneScape titles, including on‑prem to cloud transitions, while mentoring engineers and guiding reliability across live environments.

You will work with the Cloud Platform team to implement best practices, participate in on‑call rotations, and contribute to a broad, evolving remit.

Qualifications

• Strong Linux and AWS experience including IAM, EKS, ECS, CloudWAN, and Direct Connect.
• Proven IaC experience with deployed projects.
• Networking knowledge with VyOS, Palo Alto, and Arista.
• CI/CD and DevOps mindset to build reliable delivery infrastructure.
• Experience with on‑premises and hybrid interconnects; Puppet is a plus.
• Kubernetes experience; gaming/creative tech background a plus; curiosity to learn.

• Lead and actively contribute to cloud migration, including lift‑and‑shift to AWS.
• Collaborate with team to design infrastructure to in‑house standards.
• Apply IaC across legacy and new cloud deployments, reducing debt and improving reliability.
• Provide critical support for game servers, web servers, and backend infra in live environments.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers and grow cloud capability.
• Participate in on‑call rota (1 week in 5) to support production systems.

Location: Cambridge, UK - This position offers flexible working options, including predominantly remote work. Applicants should be based (or willing to relocate) within a comfortable commuting distance of our office to attend onsite as required.

Are you a cloud platform engineer who is ready to take real ownership of the cloud infrastructure behind some of the world's most-played games?

As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer in our Cloud Platform team, you'll help maintain and evolve the hybrid infrastructure underpinning RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, and DragonWilds. We're in the middle of a significant transformation - moving more and more of our infrastructure into the cloud - and we need someone who can lead in the AWS space, drive that programme forward, and mentor the team as we go.

This is hands-on, production-critical work across a wide remit: data centres, Linux, networking, cloud and everything in between. You'll work alongside the Principal Cloud Tech Engineer, contribute to architectural decisions, and take real ownership of projects - not just support them.

What you'll be doing:

• Lead and actively contribute to our cloud migration programme - including lift-and-shift into AWS - making architectural decisions and driving the project forward with the team.
• Work with the Principal Cloud Tech Engineer and Cloud Platform team to design and implement infrastructure to in-house standards and industry best practices.
• Apply IaC principles across legacy internal systems and new cloud deployments, reducing technical debt and improving platform reliability over time.
• Provide critical support for our operational systems - game servers, web servers, and backend infrastructure - ensuring stability across live production environments.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, sharing knowledge and helping the team grow their cloud capability.
• Participate in an on-call rota (currently 1 week in 5, Monday to Monday) to support production systems when issues arise.

What we're looking for:

• Strong, demonstrable experience with Linux and AWS - including IAM, EKS, ECS, CloudWAN, and Direct Connect/SiteLink - and the confidence to lead projects in the AWS space.
• Proven experience applying IaC principles, with deployed projects to show for it.
• Solid understanding of networking and familiarity with technologies such as VyOS, Palo Alto, and Arista.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and a DevOps mindset - understanding how to build and maintain reliable delivery infrastructure.
• Experience with on-premise environments and how they interconnect with cloud infrastructure in a hybrid setup; familiarity with configuration management tooling (preferably Puppet) is a plus.
• Kubernetes experience is a strong advantage, as is experience in gaming, VFX, or other creative technical environments. Above all, we're looking for someone who is genuinely curious and open to learning across a wide and evolving remit.
