Job summary

The Database Engineering team at LexisNexis Risk Solutions is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to ensure reliability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data platforms powering critical apps. You will blend reliability engineering with hands-on AWS database expertise across services like Aurora MySQL, RDS, Redshift, DynamoDB, and ElastiCache.

  • Hands-on experience with managed cloud database services across AWS.
  • Strong SQL skills with design, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • IaC and CI/CD experience for database changes.

Responsibilities

  • Create monitoring queries and establish service-level baselines for critical database services
  • Design and implement solutions that improve availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability across AWS database platforms
  • Participate in on-call rotation to assist in the recovery of major production incidents and act as a senior escalation point
  • Plan and execute failover testing within and between AWS regions
  • Automate the recovery of systems and components using Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management
  • Implement automation and execute code in production environments to reduce manual effort and operational toil
  • Design and maintain monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions, including reusable, code-defined dashboards
  • Contribute to post‑mortems, root cause analyses, reliability engineering documentation, and mentoring of junior engineers

About the Role

The Database Engineering team is seeking a Senior Cloud Database Engineer II to help ensure the reliability, performance, security, and scalability of cloud data platforms supporting business-critical and customer-facing applications. In this role, you will combine reliability engineering and hands‑on cloud database expertise across AWS services, helping to improve service resilience, automate operational processes, and support high-performing production environments. You will also collaborate across engineering teams and provide guidance to colleagues while contributing to operational excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Create monitoring queries and establish service-level baselines for critical database services
  • Design and implement solutions that improve availability, fault tolerance, and recoverability across AWS database platforms
  • Participate in on‑call rotation to assist in the recovery of major production incidents and act as a senior escalation point
  • Plan and execute failover testing within and between AWS regions
  • Automate the recovery of systems and components using Infrastructure-as-Code and configuration management
  • Implement automation and execute code in production environments to reduce manual effort and operational toil

Requirements
  • Hands‑on experience operating managed cloud database services such as Aurora MySQL, Amazon RDS, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Dyna
  • moDB, or Amazon ElastiCache
  • Strong SQL skills with experience in database design, optimization, and troubleshooting, including schema design, query tuning, indexing, locks, and performance bottlenecks
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation using Python, Bash, or a comparable language
  • Experience designing and implementing monitoring and observability solutions
  • Solid understanding of high availability, backup, recovery, and disaster recovery concepts
  • Experience participating in on‑call rotation, incident response, and root cause analysis
  • Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using CloudFormation or Terraform and CI/CD practices for database change management
  • Experience implementing database security, access governance, resiliency patterns, or supporting high‑availability production environments
