Senior Clinical Scientist in Radiation Protection

The closing date is 17 December 2025

We are looking for a highly motivated and scientifically skilled person to take on a senior role at the St. George's Radiological Protection Centre. The successful applicant would be working in the diagnostic radiology service provided to the Trust and, through acting as an appointed MPE, to a wide range of external customers.

They will use their knowledge, skills and experience to help ensure compliance with the regulatory framework and play an important role in the development of RPC's scientific services. They will also play a role in the delivery of RPC's training commitments to healthcare professionals.

Main duties of the job
  • To support the Head of Radiation Protection in delivering RPC's service commitments.
  • To act as the appointed MPE to sites that are the responsibility of the post holder.
  • Audit services with regard to their compliance with legislation relating to radiation and laser safety and advise on corrective actions arising.
  • Responsible for the investigation of radiation incidents and provision of radiation incident reports to clients. To ensure the accuracy of incident reports provided by other colleagues.
  • To contribute to the development of RPC's scientific and technical services.
  • To contribute to the department's scientific research and development activities.
  • Contribute to providing advice on legislation and guidance in radiation protection to clients.

Qualifications & Certification
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist
  • MPE certification
  • MSc in Radiation Physics (or equivalent)
  • Certificate with RPA 2000 as LPA (or working towards)
  • Certificate with RPA 2000 as RPA (or working towards)
  • Corporate member of a professional body
Experience
  • Experience in diagnostic radiology physics testing of CT, digital x-ray, mammography and fluoroscopy procedures
  • Experience giving advice as lead in laser safety
  • Experience advising a range of customers as appointed MPE
Management and Communication
  • Able to present scientific papers at national meetings / conferences
  • Supervised staff or trainees
