A university health board in Wales is seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join the Specialist Clinical Psychology Service. Job description

We are delighted to announce that an exciting opportunity has arisen to work within the Specialist Clinical Psychology Service within the Artificial Limb & Appliance Centre based at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

With the support of a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, the post holder will undertake a pivotal role in the continued development of this service. Working alongside highly skilled MDT members, the successful applicant will undertake specialised psychological assessment, formulation and interventions with children and adults who have experienced amputation, limb absence, or limb difference and /or their families from across North & Mid Wales. Training and consultation with the multidisciplinary team will be an important part of the role. The post holder will also be part of a supportive national network of clinical psychologists working within this highly specialised field.

This is a permanent post for two days per week (0.4 WTE, 15 hours) based within the Artificial Limb & Appliance Centre, Wrexham.

This post is open to senior clinical psychologists or newly qualified clinical psychologists who would like the opportunity to undertake this role as a development post, are equally welcome to apply. Welsh language is desirable for this post, but not essential.

Main duties of the job

• To assess and treat own specialist Clinical Psychology caseload of highly distressed and disabled patients within the defined Health Clinical Psychology Clinical Service Area.
• To undertake specialist clinical psychology assessments of clients and their families/carers, where appropriate.
• To provide, develop and manage highly specialist clinical psychology interventions for these clients.
• To liaise with multidisciplinary team colleagues, other BCU teams and relevant non-BCU services regarding the psychological care of MDT patients, where appropriate.
• To provide clinical supervision for less experienced Clinical Psychologists, Trainee Clinical Psychologists and Assistant Psychologists as appropriate.
• To provide specialist advice to other professionals and carers.
• To undertake Research and Development Activities, lecturing, teaching and training.

Training & Qualifications

• Good Honours degree in Psychology. Eligibility for Chartered status with the BPS and HCPC registration
• Post-graduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS.
• Clinical supervision training for Clinical Psychologists

Experience

• Willingness to develop additional specialist skills through supervised training or experience in Health Clinical Psychology including case presentations, group supervision and short courses post-qualification.
• Willingness to undertake training in supervisory skills
• Significant post-qualification experience in the field of Health Clinical Psychology (e.g. pain management, cancer/palliative care, renal medicine).
• Experience of teaching, training and/or supervision. Additional training in assessment or therapeutic intervention

• Ability to use highest level of interpersonal and communication skills to convey and receive highly complex/sensitive information effectively, requiring empathy and reassurance, in a highly emotive atmosphere and the ability to overcome psychological resistance to potentially threatening information, whilst maintaining high degree of professionalism at all times.
